Chapter Zell 3
The surprise party for Selphie could not have been going better. The music and food were great and everyone was having a great time except for the feuding couple Squall and Rinoa. Zell was watching Squall and Rinoa arguing for the last few minutes. He wished that there was something he could do to help them but he knew he had to stay out of it and wish for the best.
"Hey Zell" came from a familiar voice from behind him. Zell turned to see who it was.
"Oh, Quistis."
"You seemed worried about them."
"Aren?t you?"
"We all are. It just seems to be getting worse and worse between them."
"Yeah. It?s hard to think they could break up over Squall?s sense of duty. Squall will be especially crushed. Rinoa was the one who opened him and if they broke up Squall will close up tighter then an oyster. "
"I know. How are Irvine and Selphie?"
"I just told Selphie that Irvine set the whole party up to make her feel better. I hope that turns out okay. It?s hard to see friends on bad terms. Hey, I have to go refresh my drink. I?ll be back." Quistis then was off.
He looked over to the corner where Squall was and saw he was alone. Curious, Zell went over to him.
"Hey man, whatsup?"
"Not now." Squall said dryly as he finished his last sip of his cocktail and stalked off.
"Something?s very wrong." Zell looked down and saw a shiny metal on the ground. He picked it up and confirmed his suspicions. It was the Griever ring he made for Rinoa. They had had their final fight.
"Is that what I think it is?" gasped Quistis from over Zell?s shoulder. Zell shook his head. "I wonder what is going to happen now."
Zell looked up into the crowd of people and saw many friends but could not find Rinoa. He thought that he could find her and give he the ring back she will remember the time she asked for it and why. Zell, like Quistis, hated to see his friends upset with each other. So Zell started looking for her. He looked all around the Quad and finally saw that she was on the balcony above. He was about to head up there but he noticed that she was talking to someone in tears. As he kept watching he noticed that the person she was talking to was not Squall but it was Seifer. He stood there astonished at the sight. Seifer must of followed her when she hurried off. The sight soon go worse as Zell saw them hold each and kiss. This kiss was unmistakable and long and momentous. Zell quickly left the scene because he knew that he was not meant to see it.
"Oh god. Oh god. Oh god." Zell repeated to himself. Quistis ran over to him because he was noticeably upset.
"Zell what?s wrong? Your pale."
"I... I, I I saw something... I shouldn?t have."
"What!"
"Nothing... N, nev- nevermind"
"Zell I promise I will not tell anybody else. I am not only your friend I am your sister."
"I saw Rinoa on the balcony kissing Seifer"
"What?!"
"Shh! keep it down do you want the whole world hearing?"
"I don?t understand. There must be some-"
"I saw them kissing passionately. There is no mistaking it"
"This would crush Squall?s heart."
"I know. We?ve must keep this a secret."
"Can this night cannot get any worse."
"Should we do something?"
"I don?t think we can. This is between Squall and Rinoa."
Out of the calm atmosphere of the party, sounded Irvine?s voice "Selphie!" Selphie came running from out behind the stage in tears followed by Irvine in the distance.
"Selphie what?s wrong?" asked Zell but Selphie only shook her head no and continued on her way to her room.
"Irvine what?s wrong with Selphie?" Quistis questioned Irvine when he made through the crowd and came to where Zell and Quistis were.
"I asked her the way you said to and she flat out said No. I have been wasting my time on someone who will never care about me. I will be in the Training center." At that Irvine left the party.
"Something wrong Quistis. Why would Selphie be crying if she only said no. There is something missing from the story."
"My thoughts exactly. Why don?t you go talk to Selphie and I will go talk to Irvine and keep him from doing something stupid."
"All right." They both parted and went after their friends.
